    Dokuro volume 4 (Manga)

    December 25th, 2015

Here’s Volume 4 (Dokuro manga): MediaFire

    MERRY 1551-HIT CHRISTMAS COMBO!
And here we are at the finale to this excellently gory manga! Now you don’t have to wait to find out if Kikuchi Takeo succeeds in his quest of vengeance against the cult that made him a killing machine, plus you’ve got the prototype one-shot! I’d like to thank the good folks at Illuminati-Manga for their support on the editing end of things, and I’d like to dedicate this to our old friends dxInt and Seven Stars, who had been wanting to see this manga to completion for several years now.

Now that this series is finally over, I’d like to take the time to do something I don’t do very often, and get a little bit serious.

When I first started this series, I thought that the cult portrayed in this manga was based off of the death cult Aum Shinrikyo, who committed the terrorist attacks on the Tokyo subway in 1995, and caused a lot of suspicion towards new religions in Japan. I figured that would explain the total devotion to their leaders, willingness to commit murder, and all-around horribleness that this cult commits. I’ve since been informed that it’s actually meant to represent another Japanese religious movement, the Buddhist sect known as Soka Gakkai. This sect is infinitely less radical and dangerous than Aum, and there are many believers all across Japan and around the world, including a handful I know personally, but partly because of skepticism towards religion in Japan, and partly because of how active this group was in spreading their message during the 70s, many Japanese wrongly viewed it as a cult. Saruwatari was no exception, and that anti-Soka Gakkai sentiment is partly what led to Dokuro. Saruwatari has since regretted and apologized for his connection of the sect to the cult in Dokuro, which is an interesting change of heart for someone who also drew his main character punching Reagan in the face.

Today, many people around the world will be celebrating the birth of their savior 2000 years ago in Palestine. Sadly, in today’s global climate, many of those same people will turn around and act prejudiced, hateful, and even violent towards other religions and members of those religions, particularly Islam, and not distinguish between the scumbag murderers of ISIS and the kind and peaceful Muslim family that lives just down the street. Whatever your views on religion are, this is not okay. Yes, bad things have been done in the name of religion throughout history. That’s what Dokuro’s all about, and as a kind-of religious person myself, that’s why Dokuro is so powerful to me. But if there’s another thing we ought to learn from Dokuro, and on Saruwatari’s reflections after writing Dokuro, it’s that judging people for their beliefs based on your own biases is incredibly hurtful. This isn’t to say that we can’t be critical when religious people are clearly doing something wrong. But whatever your beliefs are, whether Catholic, Buddhist, Mormon, spiritual, atheist, pantheist, Rastafarian, Pastafarian, or follower of the Christian Ghost Beard Eagle, just remember to reserve your judgment on people who disagree with you, listen to them, try to understand them, and most importantly, see them for who they really are: human, just like you.

Alright, that’s enough of my preaching, now go enjoy people graphically getting the flesh ripped off their bones!

And don’t forget to visit Illuminati-Manga’s website for more Saruwatari goodness!

Babel vol. 01 ch. 01 (Manga)

    December 18th, 2015

Here’s chapter 1 (Babel manga): MediaFire

    1544-HIT COMBO!
And we’ve got yet another manga for you! No, sorry, this isn’t more Babel II (we haven’t dropped it, but we are dealing with losing a translator so it’ll take a bit of time before it gets back on track). Instead, it’s a supernatural thriller written by Kinoshita Hanta, a novelist famous for “The Nightmare Elevator”, “The Nightmare Ferris Wheel”, and several other novels in the people-trapped-in-a-claustrophobic-setting genre, and drawn by Inoue Noriyoshi, most famous for Mad Bull 34 and a whole bunch of other great and awesome manga that no one in the West seems to know or even care about… Either way, it’s hard to go wrong with a creative team like that, and this time-travelling thriller sure hits the spot! So stay tuned to see how the story goes…
