I know that some among you reading this blog are history manga fans, given the amount of historical manga we did, so you may remember way back in 2013, our good friends Hox and HappyScans translated a short Yasuhiko Yoshikazu manga entitled Alexandros – Dream for World Conquest, which was a tie-in with an NHK channel’s history special. What you may not have known is that this was but one of two tie-ins to this special, with the other focusing on an empire that did what the Macedonians never quite accomplished, written and drawn by Hoshino Yukinobu. And of course, when Hoshino and history come together, you know the theorizing has to be delivered through the man, the myth, the mustache, Professor Munakata himself!

Sadly, Hox was not able to be involved with this project, but thanks to the help of Wright from HappyScans and our up-and-comer Jawsh, we’re able to bring you this last piece in the Professor Munakata series. So get comfy, breathe in that steppe air, put on your record of the HU, and get ready for some good old-fashioned conquest!

It’s time for a brand-new series! And okay, yeah, maybe this isn’t the kind of series you’re used to seeing from us, but let me set the stage. Back in middle school in the early 2000s, I remember taking the train to school, and sometimes there would be someone reading manga next to me. I remember once catching a glimpse of this manga which had a main character that really stood out to me, though for the life of me I can’t remember why, because he doesn’t really have many features that stand out. Must’ve been those big eyes.

It stuck with me to the point that about fifteen years later, I looked around for it and finally found it, and turns out it’s by the artist of Hell Teacher Nube, it’s all about cryptids, and it’s actually pretty funny. So since this was a series that fell through the crack of manga that are old enough to be considered classics and manga that came out during the Western manga boom, I figured that I’d take a crack at it. Hope you enjoy it, but if it’s not your thing, don’t lose your head over it!
