We’ve done a lot of historical manga on this site, but so far nothing covering the great epic that is Romance of the Three Kingdoms. And since Hox already took the longest and most definitive manga version, we’ll have to settle for this sought-after one from the creative team that brought you Sanctuary and Heat. Pretty good for second prize, I’d say!

A Note on Naming
When we first began scanlating Lord, we decided we would be using either Chinese or Japanese names exclusively for the sake of consistency, at least for the characters who are Chinese.

Points for using Japanese names included:

– It’s a manga and Japanese pronunciation of all Kanji is actually provided and used, and we have no idea of what the conventions are for pronouncing Chinese names in Japan as opposed to English-speaking countries.
– Some names are given solely in Katakana (i.e. the mountain tribes) and don’t use Chinese characters at all, and researching them would take a minute on Google and we can’t be assed.
– Translator bias, whatever the hell that means.
– A mistaken belief that other translators would share our ass-backwards opinion on translation or be as lazy as we are.

Points for using Chinese names included:

– It’s their fucking names.

As a result, we’ve used Chinese names for all Chinese characters and will continue using them, and deem anyone who chooses otherwise to be invalid and just really dumb.
