Now for those of you who were getting excited by the semblance of the guy on this cover to Jotaro, I’m sorry, but this is NOT Stardust Crusaders. What it is, though, is manly-man MANga arist Akira Miyashita’s debut work, published long before Otokojuku, even before such Shonen Jump classics as Hokuto no Ken and Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure (and I’m wondering whether it was actually Masa that inspired Jotaro’s look…).
So, what’s this manga about, and why should you read it? Well, apparently Miyashita really liked the whole “unusual school” setting, cause this manga is about a school built by the yakuza for future yakuza! So you get to enjoy the manly adventures of School-cap Masa and the rest of the gang as they try to survive in this hell of a school! If you like any other of Miyashita’s manga, or if you like yakuza manga in general, you’re gonna love this one!

Finally, a note on the translation of this title: The Japanese title is “Shiritsu Kiwamemichi Koukou”, but the kanji for “Kiwamemichi” are usually read as “Gokudo”, a word referring to the yakuza, gangsters, or the criminal underworld in general. By indicating it’s read as “Kiwamemichi”, Miyashita is showing that they are meant to be read separately, as the words “Ultimate” and “Path”, intending it to be a statement on how the path of the Yakuza is the “ultimate path”.

This manga was referenced in the Kinnikuman manga. Irezumiman was said to be from Kiwamemichi.
I’ve always wanted to read Miyashita’s early works, but I never though someday they would become scanlated. Thanks a bunch for this one, guys!
And, yeah, this dude on cover looks A LOT like Jotaro. I’ve seen many characters in manga that looks like him, the influence power of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure is amazing, indeed.
(Random trivia: Jojo is my favorite manga of all-time and the one of the first ones that i’ve read and also that brough me to the wonderful world of japanese comics alongside Hokuto no Ken, heheh :P).
Jotaro’s look is actually based on Mitsuteru Yokoyama’s Babel II. The hat and the school uniform unbuttoned is just something used to represent that that person is a banchou or a juvenile delinquent student in general.
