1256-HIT COMBO!
And… we… are… OUT! Finally, Miyashita’s debut series and the story of proto-Otokojuku is out there for the masses to enjoy! Now you may notice that like most of his other series, this ending is pretty abrupt. Unlike the ones that seemed to have happened for no reason (cough Family of Brahman cough), I actually know the story behind this one, and it’s kind of infuriating if you really think about it.

Remember that scene back in chapter 39 where Tamasaburo was showing Masa the badges from the schools that Ultimate Path had crushed? Apparently one of Miyashita’s assistants snuck in the name of a real school, and the school administrators were furious and complained to Shueisha about it. The blame all fell on Miyashita for a lack of oversight, and Ultimate Path was cancelled, no tankobon were released beyond the first one (which soon went out of print), and the manuscripts were either lost or destroyed. It wasn’t until Miyashita left Shueisha for Nihon Bugeisha in 2011 that he would return to this title, and it was in 2012 that Shueisha finally decided that the entire series needed to be printed, but without the manuscripts they had to scan from the back issues of the magazines, which explains the quality of the raws. While I’m on that subject, everyone give a huge kudos to kazuhiko1412 for sticking through this, since he’s told me pretty frequently that these raws are incredibly hard to work with, and I think he’s done the best with what he’s been given!

For those of you who want more of Schoolcap Masa, don’t worry, because these characters will return in Geki!! Gokutora Ikka, and of course there’s the series reboot/sequel/whatever Ultimate Path Private High School 2011, both which are currently in the works by us as we speak!
